Bill made a good case for how to fix this country. It was full of specifics. While I don’t doubt Hillary’s command of the issues, I wonder if she can match Bill’s ability to woo a crowd. She’s suppose to come to Oregon Saturday, so perhaps I’ll get to see for myself. I doubt we’ll see McCain here until after the primary season. The Obama Show Comes to Portland.
Sorry for the lack of updates—I had to take a week off from the blog for unforeseen reasons.
Last Friday Barack Obama paid a visit to Portland.
It was a capacity crowd at Memorial Coliseum which seats about 13,000. It was a rousing speech with lots of the optimistic platitudes one would expect from the Obama campaign. I’m not sure yet if I’m a believer.
Gov. Richardson made his endorsement that morning. Seeing his enthusiasm for Obama did increase the Senator’s credibility in my eyes. I’m predicting that Richardson will be tapped as running-mate if Obama gets the nomination. We’ll see if I’m right. After the rally there was a press conference. It occurred to me towards the end that I should ask if a VP slot was in the cards for the Governor but it was too late. As a photographer, I’m so used to being a silent observer that asking questions at press conferences doesn’t often occur to me. I’m working on being more of a reporter, and not just an voyeur on the world’s events. I see how different a mind-set it is. As a photographer, my approach has always been to just allow things to happen and then try to find the angle and moment to capture that illustrates my impression of the situation. If you want to write about an event, you need to get people to say things so that you have new information to report. Both are exciting in their own way. Putting the two together will present an interesting challenge, but one I think is worth taking.

KINK Holiday Concert
Here is an image from the most recent KINK Radio Holiday Concert. There were five acts. Collective Soul was the headliner.
Film Festival
I miss the Portland International Film Festival. This was the second year I photographed it and it is really an interesting assignment. It’s exposed me to a lot of modern cinema that I would never have had the opportunity to see. I’ve thought a lot about “Snow Angles” since its screening. It was pretty depressing in a lot of ways, but I still can’t decide if I liked it or not.
