Last month I had an assignment to photograph a local cribbage club. I had no idea one existed here, but they meet every Thursday night at Patty’s Home Plate Cafe. I’ve never understood the game, but it still seems to have a loyal following.

Keep’n it weird
Tonight was the opening reception for the “Keep Portland Weird” show. I had 6 photographs displayed. The whole thing was a lot more performance based than I had expected. You can see more of Gwenn Seemel’s work at
Another of the Keep Portland Weird Photos
I mentioned a couple of days ago that I have a few pieces being displayed in the “Keep Portland Weird” art show at city hall. Here is another of the images that will be displayed.
The Beauty of Polaroid.
I had an idea to photograph people holding signs asking for money. The idea being that everyone is a salesperson. After I started doing it, I wasn’t so sure about the value of the idea. I do like the look of the images taken with the Aero Ektar f2.5 lens (circa 1940’s) on my 1955 Speed Graphic 4×5 camera. The image was taken on Polaroid T55 film — also a favorite of mine. Last month Polaroid announced that it was ceasing ALL instant film production this year. It borke my heart. There is a look you can get with Polaroid that is just not possible any other way. Polaroid did say that it was offering licensing rights to other companies that might want to start producing its films. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Keep Portland Weird
Next week I’m going to have 6 pieces in a group show called “Keep Portland Weird” I’ve been photographing people I felt made my neighborhood unique for several years. Some of those images plus a couple of newer ones (such as seen above) will be there. The show is being displayed at the Portland City Hall. I’ll have to try to make it to the reception next Thursday.
